Richard Hoffmann Program Notes and Sheet Music

ichard Hoffmann (20 April 1925 – 24 June 2021) was an American composer, musicologist and educator. He served many years as a professor at Oberlin Conservatory of Music.

Hoffmann was born in Vienna, Austria, on 20 April 1925. He studied music at the University of Vienna and the Juilliard School. In 1954, he joined the faculty of Oberlin Conservatory of Music, where he taught until 2004. He was also a visiting professor at the University of California in Berkeley, Victoria University, Harvard University, the University of Iowa, and Vienna University.

Hoffmann composed over 100 works, including operas, symphonies, concertos, chamber music, and choral music. His music is often praised for its lyricism and its use of traditional forms. He was a member of the American Academy of Arts and Letters and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
