Read More Christoph Willibald von Gluck: Complete Works and Masterpieces Christoph Willibald von Gluck (1714–1787) stands as one of the most revolutionary and transformative figures in the history of Western opera. Celebrated for his visionary operatic reforms, Gluck sought to restore dramatic integrity to the stage by stripping away superfluous vocal ornamentation in favor of noble simplicity, intense emotional truth, and seamless integration of music, text, chorus, and dance.

His dramatic principles profoundly influenced the Classical era, paving the way for the mature stage works of Mozart, Cherubini, and Berlioz. This comprehensive collection spans the full breadth of Gluck's catalog (Wq. 1–55). His theatrical legacy is anchored by his groundbreaking reform operas, headlined by the immortal Orfeo ed Euridice (featuring the "Dance of the Blessed Spirits" and "Che farò senza Euridice"), Alceste, Paride ed Elena, and his monumental French tragedies for the Paris Opéra, Iphigénie en Aulide, Iphigénie en Tauride, and Armide.

The archive also includes his earlier Italian opere serie, his charming French opéras-comiques such as La rencontre imprévue, and his celebrated reform ballet pantomimes, most notably Don Juan and Sémiramis. The instrumental and sacred repertoire is further enriched by his surviving Symphonies, the Flute Concerto in G major, Trio Sonatas, and his sacred setting of the De profundis.
